Prisoner of Observation

by Enzo Marra, cover art by Enzo Marra

This first solo collection is a vivid sensory exploration of the human condition via subtle and strong strung words, busy with moments and sensations celebrated and floundered through, a dark vein of humour running during the more pessimistic episodes of this poetic journey.

Enzo Marra can be ranked among the “new school of observational dum dah dum dum poets” along with Joseph Goosey, Justin Blackburn, Colin James and Kathryn Spencer who write about everyday occurrences, mundane tasks, universal experiences, observing them in a lopsided way, less surreal than the surrealists but as emotional as the expressionists. But then, at the end of things, they draw a final-fineline-observation-with-a-twist, an acceptance of some simple foible or misstep while paradoxically at the same time, wrapping everything up in few words, which profoundly addresses ethics, love, and self-forgiveness for humanity’s foibles all in one brilliant previously unsaid morsel of philosophy.

Praise for Prisoner of Observation

"Enzo delivers to his reader a poetry stripped to the emotional bone, a series of shifting landscapes painted with relentless intent  - but with a relentless honesty too.  His effortless imagery beguiles us as we are led through the tender ambiguities of the human heart, and we emerge from reading this verse as from all the best poetry  - a little wiser, a little richer, and a little clearer as to the point of the human experiment."

"Those who appreciate the extraordinary in the ordinary will find plenty to delight them in Marra's verse."
