Submission guidelines for Fissure magazine and Shadow Archer Press Chapbooks:

For Fissure magazine:

Fissure magazine is currently closed to submissions.

 is looking for top-notch, tightly written experimental, goth, SF, horror, dark fantasy, psychological thrillers, surealism, magical realisim, slipstream, steampunk and hard to describe art and writing. We want  to awaken without resorting to shock value; disturb without excessive gore; arouse without resorting to pornography.  Everything from humor or pop culture (current or past) to quantum physics.  Just make us think, feel or wish we wrote like you do. No splatterpunk, rape, child abuse or intestines, please.  They're over done.

Think Neil Gaiman, Michael Danielewski, John Fowles, Terry Pratchett, Caitlin Kiernan, Poppy Z. Brite, Nick Tosches, Charles DeLint, Elliott Perlman, Charles Brock, Frank Herbet, Charles DeLint. 

Fiction: We prefer your manuscript in 12 point, double spaced Times New Roman, with your name, address, phone number and e-mail in upper left hand corner, word count in upper right hand corner of first page.  Pages must be numbered and submitted in order. Only accepted in either an attached Word document. Be sure to put the title of your piece and your last name in the subject line.

Short stories, word limit 2,700 words. Flash fiction, 350-500 words.

Poetry,:limited to three poems per submission, no more than 2 pages per poem, 12 point, single space. Please do not submit another batch until hearing back on your first batch.

 

  Original, unpublished work only. Simultaneous submissions accepted but please notify us as soon as your work is accepted elsewhere.  Except for poetry, we do not accept multiple submissions.    

Be sure to put the title of your piece and your last name in the subject line.

Art:  jpegs no larger than 400 pixels, may be sent to the above email or submitted via snail mail on disc.  Submit or contact Gail, the editor at gail_gray@bellsouth.net for any questions.

How We Work:  At this point we ask for one time rights on your material for Fissure, then it reverts back to you. We pay in one copy.  Response will be by e-mail.

Poetry Chapbook Guidelines

To publish your book:

 

What we need:

 

Poetry:  Chapbooks are published in a 5/1/2 by 8 format in 12 pt. type. A poetry manuscript should run between 16-20 pages.  When reduced down into chapbook format this will run between 32-48 pages, depending on the length of your poems.  Your manuscript submission should provide the pages marked below with (Author’s manuscript)

This will include:

First page: of the manuscript should include your name, address, phone numbers and e-mail and the title of your book and your (Author’s manuscript)

Title page: a page with the title of your book and your byline (your name as you wanted it listed) (author’s manuscript)

a copyright page:(Shadow Archer Press creates this page)

a dedication page:  who you would like this chapbook dedicated to (author’s manuscript)

a signature page: (Shadow Archer Press creates this page)

a forward page: (if you like).  For pure art books or art with small bits of poetry, I would like a forward page.  (author’s manuscript)

an acknowledgements page: of a list of which poems in the chapbook were previously published and if so where including print or e-zines. This is a must Shadow Archer Press can be sued if we don’t credit your previous publications (author’s manuscript) one or two contents pages (author's manuscript

a bio page: paragraph lwngth bio provided by the author.  Can list previous books, e-books, amd publications, tell about your life, what you like. Start off with city, state and country. Inclue a heqd shot photo.

 

Text typed in Times New Roman in Word 12 point. Titles in 16 point titles, double spaced, indent first line of paragraphs

E-mail as a complete Word Document attached to an e-mail to gail-gray@bellsouth.net, with your last name and the title of the book

 

If you provide cover art, (must be approved by the editor) include the name of artist so we can get a release form signed for one time use (not rights). E-mail art in a jpeg attachment, no larger than 400.

 

If your book is accepted we’ll ask that you find friends with credentials such as other published writers and poets, editors, etc.  to write about this book.  Blurbs are used on the back cover and  for advertising purposes and for websites, myspace pages, etc. Blurbs describing the context and concept of your book. This is not a bio.
